Toshiba attacks CULV space with 11.6in T115

Toshiba attacks CULV space with 11.6in T115

After Windows 7 release, Toshiba release couple new model for 11.6 in ultraportable notebook using Intel CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) CPU. At the mean time, there is two models available in North America : Satellite T115-S1100 and T115-S1105 pricing at USD $449 and $479 respectively. Both models are available via Amazon.com, but only S1100 is available as a pre-build model on ToshibaDirect.com.

Lets check out Toshiba’s claim n the T100 Series (that includes both T110 (11.6 in) and T135 (13 in)) models:

Slim and Lightweight Portability
Our thinnest and lightest Satellite® laptop yet, the Satellite® T100 is designed with an ultrathin profile, tipping the scales at less than four pounds and measuring less than one inch thick. So don’t be surprised if you find yourself taking it from room to room, between work and home, on vacation, or throughout your school day.

Stand-Out Styling
Sporting our exclusive, elegant Fusion™ Finish in Nova Red, White or Black, this Satellite® T100 laptop really makes a statement. Lift the lid and you’ll be sure to raise a few eyebrows.

All-Purpose Power
Don’t give up the power you need for the ultrathin portability you’ll love. With an Intel® ultra-low voltage processor, lots of DDR3 memory and extended battery power, this Satellite® T100 notebook will help you go far—and keep you going strong.

Unbounded Mobility
The Satellite® T100 notebook comes with all the features you need to stay fast on your feet, with nothing to hold you back. That includes a 1-year hassle-free international warranty, a Hard Drive Impact Sensor to help protect you from the unexpected and much more.

Eco-Conscious Design
You’ll be glad to know this sleek new Satellite® laptop was designed with both you and our planet in mind. Built Earth-conscious, it also comes with a stunning LED backlit display that is mercury-free and energy efficient.

Enough said, please note there is 2 big difference on the T110 models: S1100 is using a Celeron 745 and S1105 is equipped an Intel Core 2 Solo SU2700 (single core)
Toshiba T115-S1100 spec from Toshiba website
• Intel® Celeron® Processor 743
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit)
• 2GB DDR3 memory
• 250GB hard drive
• 802.11b/g wireless
• Integrated webcam
And T115-S1105
• Intel® Pentium® Processor SU2700
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit)
• 2GB DDR3 memory
• 250GB HDD (5400rpm)
• 802.11b/g wireless
• Integrated webcam
Both models do not come with Bluetooth, no 64 bit Windows 7, and comes only in Nova Black. I was hoping it would come with Red, White, Black like the T135 does. There is a big wish list item that was announced originally but has not yet available is the addition of Intel Core 2 Duo SU4100 CPU to the lineup. SU4100 CPU’s dual core nature seems to go well with smoother HD experience and has received many praises so far. As far as these 2 models, I would highly recommend to go with the SU2700 CPU with only $20 difference in price. You will find this $20 well spend in the long run.

Ice Cream Bar USB Drive - Delicious!!

There are many different interesting design on the USB Hard drive enclosure and this one comes out as one of the most creative design. Ice cream itself is actually a HDD enclosure and the Bar is a USB flash drive. Once you plug the USB drive into the HDD slot, it really looks like a Hagen Daz Ice Cream bar while the enclosure automaticly back up all the content from the 8G USB flash into the hard drive.

The Designer for this delicious USB device is called Mintpass. It has many creative design that should tweak you interest. Hit this link to check out more of their designs at www.mintpass.com

For a premium of $100 more over Toshiba N205, you get 801.11 n, memory stick slot, DLNA compatiable, and higher resolution 1366x768 vs Toshiba's 1024x600. I don't know about you, as a long time fan of Sony ( I owned several generations of Sony walkmans, cellphones, digital frames, Vaio notebooks, PDAs, and Rear Projection/ LCD TVs.), I would pick Toshiba N205 over the Vaio W if I don't mind the resolution or Acer CULV Timeline if I need something full blown. If Sony could position the W series at around $450 range with 6 cell batteries, it would make it a lot more appealing.
